I fly drones under the CAA's Part 101 rules as part of my video production work on commercial, documentary and corporate shoots. When a location is within 4 km of an airport, I bring in a Part 102 certified pilot. Because I shoot and grade the aerials myself, they match the ground footage instead of looking like they came from a different film.

Flying in Wellington
A lot of Wellington sits within 4 km of the airport. I check every location before the shoot, and where it's inside that zone I hire a Part 102 certified pilot to fly legally, so the day isn't held up.

What if it's too windy to fly?
It happens in Wellington. If it isn't safe to fly, the aerial shots move to a calmer window and the rest of the shoot carries on.
